FIT5306 – Biostatistics and agricultural experimentation (5 credits)

Syllabus: Statistical analysis in agricultural sciences. Descriptive statistics: tables, graphs, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion. Probability distributions: binomial, Poisson, normal, t, F, chi-square. Sampling. Inference and hypothesis tests: type I and II errors, confidence interval, t-test, analysis of variance, multiple comparison tests, chi-square test and contingency tables. Basic principles of experimentation and design of experiments. Completely randomized design and randomized block design. Factorial experiments. Correlation and linear regression.
FIT5305 – Genetics (4 credits)

Syllabus: Genetic material, structure, function and gene expression. Mutation. Meiotic segregation and crossing over. Basic laws of genetics and gene interactions. Determination of sex. Inheritance linked to sex. The Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Genomics and Proteomics. Evolution.
