Forest and Floristic Inventory of Santa Catarina (IFFSC)
The Forest and Floristic Inventory of Santa Catarina (IFFSC) aims to gather updated, reliable and detailed quantitative and qualitative information about Santa Catarina’s forests. The IFFSC was created to generate a solid database to support the formulation of public policies for conservation and use of the state’s forests; provide information to the economic-ecological zoning for forestry activities conducted in the state; generate information to update lists of endangered and rare plant species; and to support the identification and definition of priority areas for conservation and restoration of degraded ecosystems.
Since the 2000s the NPFT has been involved in the IFFSC, particularly studying the genetic diversity of 13 tree species threatened with extinction or with strong pressure for exploitation. This work resulted in several publications, including MSc and PhD Thesis, articles and book chapters. All books published by IFFSC can be found here. Book organized by the NPFT researchers, in partnership with Barbosa Rodrigues Herbarium, which addresses various aspects of biology (distribution, phenology, demography, seed dispersial, among others), conservation and management of Euterpe edulis. It was published in two formats: book and issue of Sellowia journal. Thus, the contents can be cited as book chapters or as articles. The available pdf is the number 49-52 of the 2000’Sellowia journal.
